Royal Institute Energy Live Workshop
KGS offers Energy LIVE! an exciting, audience-led workshop run by The Royal Institution which delves into the different stores of energy and how they affect our daily lives. They use lively, fire-based demonstrations to demystify some of the terminology around energy, showing children just how simple this subject can be.
Aims
Pupils will leave not only knowing their elastic from their gravitational energy, but also fired up about energy and with a newly-enthused approach to science.
Background
We have run this event in the past and it has been well received by the schools we have invited.
Resources
The workshop ran twice in one day, using our school hall. We are very lucky to have a drama technician and site staff who are fantastic when it comes to supporting our partnership work.
Impact
Though there was no assessment we received positive feedback from both staff and students of the schools involved. Some of the feedback included:-
"Our science trip was very exciting. We learnt about different types of energies such as kinetic and static energy!"
"I enjoyed it when we learnt about thermal energy. When something moves fast against something metal. They go make sparks! This is from friction. We learnt that bananas are already active! They have so much potassium. I had an opportunity to go on stage and demonstrate one of the practical demos. It was so fun. I would love the opportunity to go again and to go on stage. It was fun. I really enjoyed my time at KGS and I would 100% do it again."
Pupil Involvement
Year 4-6 all from state primary schools in our local area.
Frequency
This is a one-off event.
