Midweek Maths – Online Venture

Our latest online venture, developed collaboratively with Thomas Deacon Academy, has encouraged parents and children to do Maths together at home during live webinars led by a former lead teacher from Oundle CE Primary School. Known as ‘Midweek Maths’, a regular audience of over 320 have connected with this series each Wednesday evening for 5 weeks and 200 joined the in-person event at Oundle School’s Great Hall to conclude the programme.

Aims

Midweek Maths aims to offer some stretch and challenge to pupils and to encourage conversations about Mathematics between capable young people and their parents who are invited to attend these events together.

Each event includes:

- intriguing problems that encourage mathematical thinking

- discussion of different approaches and solutions

- mathematical guests and input from the audience at home

- submission of your own mathematical questions to be answered by our expert guests

- a takeaway question to attempt at home

Background

A second series started under the ExpertEd portfolio and be offered to a wider audience.

ExpertEd is a free resource using three different, cross-curricular strands to engage with all pupils, regardless of background or ability, from age 9 to 13.
