Family Science Day
The Ogden Trust Family Science Day saw 120 children and parents come together for an afternoon of fun-filled scientific activities. It was wonderful to watch primary school children helping their parents to build a telescope or test the pH of a wide range of household items using a red cabbage.
Aims
To promote an interest in science with primary pupils and their parents and to build science capital by increasing opportunities to discuss science at home. To host a science event that brings together children and families across our local region.
Background
The event took place in SciTec offering 5 different 40 minute activities in 5 adjacent laboratories. Each parent and child took part in three different activities
Impact
120 parents and children. A great buzz in the labs and hugely positive verbal feedback suggesting a raised awareness of some fun science. Parents and children working together (science capital). A chance for local families to share in the wonderful resources of SciTec and Oundle School.
“The reptiles the talk was very interesting and seeing them up close and touching them was very enjoyable.” Parents
