Field Hockey Coaching Masterclass
Local primary and secondary school teachers in Southwark were invited to take part in a hockey coaching masterclass hosted at Alleyn's, and given by Alleyn's PE teaching staff.
Aims
The aim of the partnership is to equip non-specialist staff and those who may be less familiar, in the delivery of hockey to both secondary and primary age boys and girls.
Background
The Head of Girls' PE at Alleyn’s developed the partnership following discussions with Alleyn’s Deputy Head (Personnel & Administration) who is a former Great Britain hockey captain.
Resources
The masterclass was held at Alleyn’s School. There was classroom training as well as practical teaching on the School’s astro turf.
PE staff at Alleyn’s were encouraged to take part and direct the session as well as non-specialist staff who were on hand to help with the teams.
Impact
The teachers were equipped with resources and shown drills to take back to their respective schools with renewed confidence in hockey teaching and enthusiasm to engage more pupils in the sport of hockey.
Frequency
This was a one-off project at Alleyn’s School.
