Community fundraising
Ursuline Preparatory School is actively involved in fundraising for local and national charities. Examples of some activities can be found below.
We held our annual poppy appeal this year and children held a special Remembrance assembly when we held a minute silence. The charity prefects sold poppy related items given to us from the Royal British Legion, which included reflectors, slap rulers, friendship bands and bracelets. The donations are collected by the Royal British Legion.
Our school collected items for our local foodbank. As a school community we are very aware of how important and necessary these donations are. As a school, we encourage all children and parents to bring in anything that is of benefit to the foodbank and the individuals that use them.
To ensure that the children are aware of how and why these foodbank donations are distributed, the school had an assembly; lead by our two Charity prefects, to explain why foodbanks are in existence and also the needs of our local and wider community. Our two charity prefects were able to take the donations to the foodbank in Brentwood, along with a member of staff. The foodbank was very appreciative of our donations and we are proud that we are able to help.
The PFA hosted their annual Christmas Bazaar at the Ursuline Preparatory School, they donated gifts and their time. The children come to school and buy all their Christmas presents for the friends and family. All the money is raised from this event is donated to organisations in need or charities such as; Grove House school, Sense and Snap.
The top class ‘I’m in Upper Two get me out of here!’ themed Enterprise Week was a huge success. During their very busy fundraising week, each House has devised and carried out their own (often gruesome) challenge.
Children choose the charity they wanted to support (Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, Dogs Trust, British Heart Foundation and Make a Wish UK) and then House Captains put together a presentation to promote their charity and activity to the rest of the school.
We are very proud of the Upper Two children for this amazing achievement and for working together as a team so successfully. Many of them have been congratulated by their charities: ‘Thank you so much for choosing to support Make A Wish – your efforts will truly help to make life-changing wishes come true for children living with critical illnesses.’; ‘I just wanted to get in touch to say a big thank you for setting up your JustGiving page and choosing to fundraise for Dogs Trust by holding a Blindfold Food Tasting! We are so grateful for all your support.’

We held our annual Children in Need Day at school with children arriving in Pudsey/ spotty sporty wear. It was wonderful to see so many staff members dressing up too! Children watched an assembly and did many Children in Need activities in class.
Our Kindergarten class along with four of our Upper Two pupils were invited to visit our friends at the Beeches Care Home for their Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. It was lovely to be able to perform for the residents and equally wonderful to hear some of the residents singing along and with beaming smiles. We sang some of our favourite Christmas songs and then we were lucky enough to meet Santa who worked his magic and lit the Christmas tree. It was a really wonderful visit for our children to be part of, learning to share the Christmas joy with our local community and also seeing the residents so happy loving every moment. It was a joyful trip for all involved.
