Clifton in the Community

Sixth form pupils engage in their local community by giving time to local community groups and charities.

Aims

The aim is for pupils to volunteer in and engage with various local groups within the community:

- Local charity shops: British Heart Foundation, Brandon Shop, St Peter's Hospice Shop, The Mind Shop - with the aim of supporting good causes in the local community.

- To support the running of local nurseries and primary schools.

- Sports coaching to support the delivery of sports lessons at a local academy.

- Local church social club for the elderly with the aim of supporting a community group.

- Riding for the Disabled - to support a community group.

-  Supporting lessons in MFL at a local state primary school.

- Volunteering at North Bristol foodbank to support a community group.

- Providing friendship and tutorial support to students who are refugees and who have little adult support at a local 6th form college.

Background

These came about to forge links with local charities, schools and community groups and to give our pupils a chance to give back to the community.

Staff supervision and liaison.

Pupil Involvement

18 pupils volunteer in charity shops every Monday afternoon.

11 pupils go to the schools to be class assistants/nursery helpers every Monday afternoon.

3 pupils volunteer to help coach at a local academy.

4 pupils volunteer to socialise and serve tea at a locak church social group for the elderly.

3 pupils volunteer to support an afternoon session of riding for the Disabled.

6 pupils volunteer to support MFL lessons across the afternoon.

5 pupils volunteer at the foodbank.

6 students volunteer at the local 6th form college.

Frequency

These volunteer sessions run every week during term time.
