Wirral Community Support
The school supports various initiatives for the Wirral community. This includes:
Hosting an annual fundraising dinner for Wirral Hospice.
The fundraising dinner takes place in the School's Bushell Hall, with the catering team serving over 200 guests supported by students providing musical accompaniment and a number of further support staff involved in set-up and clearance. This occus annually.
Food Collection for local Foodbanks
School wide food collection for Wirral Foodbank and Number Seven Cafe and Supermarket, Birkenhead. We have frequently donated food to local Foodbanks, but the strengthening of links with Number Seven Cafe & Supermarket arose from a meeting between the School's Headmaster and the local MP, Frank Field.
It is hoped that the donations lead to a greater supply of tinned produce (a known need), alongisde instilling in Sixth Form volunteers a lifelong support of strong community causes. The whole School is involved in the donation of produce. Volunteers will be limited to the Sixth Form. Volunteering will be weekly, with a significant donation of produce every Harvest Festival but with 'tin drops' present in School so that donations of produce will be regular throughout the year.
An evening with the First Sea Lord
We brought a high profile speaker of national prominence to the Wirral to the area. the event was held at the Bushell Hall as a venue alongside several teaching and support staff. It was open to all pupils, including from local schools.
Chamber Choir performing at the Wirral Bazaar
A choral performance for charity fundraising which aims to bring the festive spirit to those organising and visiting the Wirral Bazaar, raising money for the charity, North-West Cancer Research.
Come and Sing Vivaldi's 'Gloria'
A day, open to the wider community, spent learning Vivaldi's 'Gloria' followed by a performance in the evening. This is part of Birkenhead School's annual Festival of Music and involves the provision of School music staff, facilities, choral scores and catering.
