Rugby World Cup

An annual rugby tournament that brings together pupils from Oxfordshire schools.

Aims

Give girls from Oxfordshire schools the opportunity to play rugby. Coaching was provided to the morning group so no experience of the game was required. The afternoon was an opportunity for girls to experience touch rugby competition and represent their schools.

Resources

Wychwood staff organised the event. We have a partnership with Oxford Harlequins RFC and used their pitches. Wychwood school provided the event T-shirts and goody bags for all attending pupils. Wychwood school also organised and paid the appearance fees for elite rugby players to attend and inspire pupils. This included Rocky Clark (England’s most capped player at the time of this event) and England player Bryony Cleall.

Impact

The event inspired pupils and increased participation of rugby within schools. https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/23067511.wychwood-school-hosts-womens-rugby-world-cup-event/
