Primary schools' cross-country fun run
A particular highlight every year is the cross-country fun run for KS2 pupils, delivered in partnership with The River Learning Trust. This is a non-competitive run that takes place on St Edward's school fields with a sensory aspect of the course to provide an element of fun for children and increase their interest in running. There is no timing aspect to the run; the motto is "Start together, Finish Whenever".
Aims
This event aims to encourage pupils to take part in sports and enjoy running, build school spirit and develop confidence skills.
Resources
St Edward's sports department and Harriers are involved in hosting the event. Refreshments are provided to pupils and spectators.
Impact
Feedback from staff and pupils has been very positive.
Pupil Involvement
Over 500 pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 from local primary schools take part in the run around St Edward's school fields every year.
Up to 20 pupils from St Edward's and 15 staff members are involved in supervising and marshalling the event. Many more members of staff are involved in setting up the event, including the logistics and catering teams.
