Partnership Programme with primary schools

We work closely with local primary schools through Teddies Collaborates programme, in which all our Lower Sixth pupils are involved. The pupils are engaged in a range of activities, including after school clubs, classroom support for literacy and numeracy, and assisting with lunchtime and playground activities. Our Lower Sixth pupils visit local primary schools for weekly one-hour sessions over nine months, working in partnership with local primary schools. This programme provides our pupils opportunities to learn and grow, socially and culturally, whilst providing meaningful assistance to local primary schools in the form of practical support and volunteering.

Aims

Teddies Collaborates is a school-wide initiative that builds knowledge of social action and the value of service. This programme, which is fully embedded into our Lower Sixth timetable, encourages pupils to engage with society and foster a sense of collective responsibility. In living out our school values of kindness, courage and integrity, our pupils learn that service is not just what we do, but who we are.

Resources

Our Lower Sixth pupils, primary school time and support, travel-related expenses.

Impact

Many pupils reflected on the positive experiences they gained through mentoring and service. They highlighted the relationships and connections they built with the children at their placements, as well as their growth in patience, empathy and a sense of responsibility. They really enjoy the sessions and love time with young children.

"I think getting to know these children individually certainly broadened my perspective on the importance of giving younger children full attention and chatting with them about their day." - Lower Sixth pupil.

"I would like to mention that pupils have been absolutely outstanding. They are wonderful with the children and have been such a great help in the classroom". – Primary school teacher.

Service has taught me the value of patience when listening and the significance of excelling at interpersonal communication.’- Lower Sixth pupil.

"Having the same students each week allowed our pupils and the Teddies pupils to form positive relationships" – Primary school teacher.
