Fourth Form Partnerships Day: STEM Extravaganza
This large-scale event aims to stimulate the inquisitive minds of children from local primary schools and St Edward's pupils through a wide range of STEM workshops and live demonstrations. Pupils are excited to interact and learn from each other in a social setting. They also have the opportunity to develop relationships across the schools and deepen their knowledge.
Resources
The event takes place on the school site, making use of the school facilities to run multiple workshops and live demonstrations safely and effectively.
Pupils explore STEM topics ranging from rocket engineering and robotics to Mars landers and space elevators. The highlights include:
STEM Challenges: focusing on creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork through engineering tasks.
Mars Lander Workshop: Pupils design, build, and test spacecraft landing devices.
Demonstrations: exciting experiments featuring a rocket car, a hybrid motor, jet engine demonstration, and a fireball display- a memorable, loud and visual learning experience.
Fun Science Workshop: Science of sweets.
Space Elevator Challenge: Using K'nex, pupils engineer vertical transport systems to explore space travel and learn about the science of space suits.
Impact
Feedback from staff and pupils has been very positive.
