Primary school use of indoor swimming pool
Bethany School invites local primary school pupils to use our heated indoor swimming pool for swimming lessons.
Aims
To enable local primary schools to benefit from using our heated indoor swimming pool for swimming lessons.
To improve the swimming ability of local primary aged children to the National standard.
Background
Swimming is the only sport to be included within the national curriculum physical education programme of study. All primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key Stage 1 or 2.
Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:
Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations.
Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
Resources
Goudhurst Primary and Colliers Green Primary School use our swimming pool, their PE teachers run the sessions.
We provide transport to and from the session using our Bethany minibuses.
There is a small charge for fuel and pool chemicals used.
Impact
These schools were able to fulfil their requirements to get all Year 3/4 students to a certain standard of swimming.
Pupil Involvement
Year 3 and Year 4- Boys and Girls.
Frequency
This happens on an annual basis.
