Oxbridge/Medical Application Workshop
Hosting and running an annual workshop with WBS and local state school pupils, to develop their applications for Oxbridge or medical school.
Aims
The aim was to share skills and knowledge to give the students access to the best possible advice on developing their applications.
The identified need was the lack of specific sessions for these high achievers in an increasingly competitive environment.
Background
The partnership has been running for a number of years following discussions between the Careers Advisors for the various schools.
Resources
The main resource is providing main and break-out rooms for the pupils to work together and listen to presentations. We also provide lunch for all the students and a chance to exchange their experiences with students from other schools.
The activities uses teaching staff for approximately four hours.
There is no financial contribution from the attending schools.
Impact
Although there is no quantitative assessment, there is no doubt that the students find the workshops very useful and enhance their applications.
Pupil Involvement
About 8 pupils from WBS and around 16 participants from local state schools.
The students are aged 16 and 17.
Frequency
This activity is offered once a year.
