Kindergarten Peter Pan Theatre Experience
A set of three 25 minute workshops led by an experienced actor/drama teacher appearing in role as Peter Pan. Using drama, dance and singing, the children were trained up as 'Mermaids and Pirates' and taken on a magical journey to Neverland where they rescued treasure from Captain Hook, whilst meeting some much loved characters along the way.
Aims
This workshop was a perfect introduction to drama for Kindergarten children. At the heart the sessions the aim was to promote confidence and communication skills, as well as to have lots of fun!
Background
Oakwood School has always had a good relationship with The Daisy Chain Nursery and wanted to provide exciting opportunities for staff and children to become more involved on-site to further strengthen relationships and to share resources and experiences.
Resources
The workshop used school facilities to host the event (use of the Pre-Prep Hall, classrooms, outdoor play area and catering team for themed snack!) and involved an external theatre group to come onto site to run the event. No financial contribution was sought.
Impact
Positive feedback received from both staff and children from The Daisy Chain Nursery. This proved to be a very enjoyable event and had strengthened connections between the school and Nursery.
Pupil Involvement
A group of 12 boys and girls attended the workshop from The Daisy Chain Nursery and were accompanied by 3 members of staff.
Frequency
The workshop was the first of its kind to be run at Oakwood. Due to its success there are plans to repeat possibly on an annual basis.
