Football Tournament for Year 7 ‘B’ Team Players

An excellent array of sporting fixtures exist between schools within the county and this competition was designed to provide enjoyable and competitive sport for those who may not make the A team within their school setting.  Teams taking part this year were:

Bishop Heber, Chester Catholic High, Blacon High, Christleton High, Tarporley High

Aims

To provide opportunities for those footballers who might ordinarily not get chance to play in a tournament (which are normally aimed at 1st / A teams) to play in a friendly and competitive environment.

Background

This project was initiated by a member of staff at Abbey Gate College. It was designed to maximise the use of the College’s playing fields and other sporting facilities.  After consultation with Heads of PE in local state schools Abbey Gate College agreed to host the tournament to enable as many pupils as possible to play competitive sport.

Resources

The event is held using the College’s sporting facilities with C Cutler in charge.  College pupils referee the matches.  Catering and Site Team support contribute to the successful running of the event.

Impact

The tournament is well received and teams return annually.  It allows those pupils who would not normally experience competitive school football to do so.

Pupil Involvement

Y7 footballers from Abbey Gate College and other local High Schools who have just transitioned from their primary schools are provided with an opportunity to experience an enjoyable football tournament.

Frequency

It is an annual event in the Autumn Term.
