Equipment donations to partner schools

Abbey Gate College provides free use of one of our minibuses to local primary school, Saighton Primary, to allow the pupils to get to weekly swimming classes.

Abbey Gate College provides free cycling equipment and furniture which was still in good condition to other local schools. Chairs were donated to Dinas Bran School and a Sandwich Chiller Unit was donated to a local cricket club.

Aims

The purpose of the initiative is to enable the local primary school to access different activities for their pupils, without the worry of cost prohibitive transport. We were advised that without our help with transport to the swimming pool each week, the school would have been unable to afford the increased cost of the coaches to get their children there, thereby denying them access to a valuable experience each week.

Sustainability is one of Abbey Gate College's core pillars. In line with this, we always seek to share what we have with the community, if it is still in good condition, to reduce our waste.

Background

The Head and the External Relations Manager discussed how we could support the local primary school, who is also our neighbour. Transport was one area identified as a real need, by the primary Head. The relationship was established in the academic year 2022-23 and provision was planned by our Estates Manager. This will continue as long as we are in a position to offer it.

Resources

Use of school minibuses and our school site team to drive them. We do not ask for any financial contribution and consider it both a pleasure and our duty as a school with charitable status.

Use of pre-loved school equipment
