Community service - nursing homes
Year 10 pupils visit local nursing homes each week for one term each year
Our sixth form pupils and staff also host an annual afternoon tea party for a group from Contact the Elderly.
Aims
To provide acitivies, company and support for elderly residents and dementia patients in local nursing homes.
Background
This has been driven by the school chaplain's and pupils' desire to help in the community.
The project has been running for over 10 years.
Resources
Pupils and staff time and minibuses/transport costs
The project runs throughout the year and in total, 80 Year 10 pupils spend one hour a week, for one term out in the community.
Impact
No direct measurment, but the success of the programme can be determined by the fact that it has been going for more than 10 years.
