Wealden Hub - Lunar New Year Workshop Day 2023
3 primary schools, were hosted at Benenden School to take part in workshops, celebrating the Lunar New Year.
90 pupils in Years 5/6 took part in a series of three workshops, led by members of the Benenden School Mandarin Department. A Kung Fu workshop was led by an outside expert, alongside creative origami and an introduction to Mandarin.
Benenden provided two schools with minibus transport to enable them to attend.
Aims
The aim was to provide a cultural experience through the celebrate of the Lunar New Year
Mandarin is not normally studied at Primary level and so this provided an opportunity to share knowledge and enjoyment of global culture
The aim was to host 90 pupils and this was achieved - the session lasted from 1300 - 1500.
Background
This was part of the ongoing programme of events provided by Benenden School as part of the Wealden Hub initiative.
Resources
Benenden's Mandarin department and partnership lead staff the event.
The Science Atrium, lecture theatre and a classroom were used.
3 Benenden minibus collected one school and an additional minibus was hired for one other school to attend.
Impact
Two primary schools provided email feedback about the excellent quality of the afternoon, with on the day testimonials about the enjoyment of the event for the pupils.
