Benenden School and John Wallis Academy - Mentoring
Every year Benenden School and John Wallis students take part in a series of mentoring events at each others' schools.
Aims
The create collaborative relationship between the two schools; the Y10 from John Wallis and Y12 from Benenden School.
The approach is one where pupils are able to support one another as they progress through their GCSEs and A-levels. The activities are designed to offer study skills guidance, specific subject support and an opportunity to gain skills in mentoring.
Background
This is part of the John Wallis and Benenden Partnership and has been running for over ten years.
Resources
There are usually three sessions throughout the year, however this is being looked at to increase the number and the duration of the programme, with the groups now working over 2 years - providing a more substantial long term engagement.
Impact
The feedback we have received has been positive, however it is difficult to calculate the benefits in terms of results. It is anticipated that the feedback forms will be useful in demonstrating an improvement in the programme with the move to a two year cycle.
Pupil Involvement
50 pupils from both schools take part in the sessions - 100 in total.
Frequency
The mentoring sessions happen on a termly basis.
