The Royal British Legion Stamford Primary Schools Singing Day

Six schools were invited to attend the The Royal British Legion Stamford Primary Schools Singing Day. Stamford Endowed Schools offered the venue to allow more space for the pupils to perform and for the parents to watch. SES director of Music was the pianist for the rehearsal and performance.

Background

The British Legion were looking for a venue to hold the event and the SES Principal offered the OE Hall. The event took place on a smaller scale last year and in order to expand, it required a larger venue.

Resources

The OE Hall is situated at Stamford Boys School and has raised seating and a stage for performances. Our director of Music is a full time teacher at the endowed schools and he led the music for both the 2 hour rehearsal and the hours' performance. After the event refreshments were put on for staff of the schools and the British Legion. No financial contributions were required for the venue or tickets for parents.

Impact

The use of the venue allowed for over 120 children to perform. The school also provided a musical accompanist and seating for parents to watch the performance. The children had the opportunity to be part of a choir of 120 from local schools and learn about music through the ages. The British Royal Legion were able to promote their charitable work.

Pupil Involvement

Stamford's Junior School choir was made up of around 50 boys and girls from Y5 and Y6 alongside 70 other Y4-Y6 pupils from schools around the local area.
