The Doodle Dance Project, Adur

Shoreham College hosts a joint project with local primary schools involving a workshop and a performance of music, art and dance. Last summer's theme was 'Protest' (the environment).

Aims

The aim was to have primary age pupils collaborating on a joint project designed to be contemporary and relevant.

The primaries are under-resourced in terms of locations.

Critical factors: teamwork/collaboration/social interaction and the production of a artistic performance.

Background

Shoreham College had implemented such schemes before, having identified the need in the local community.

Resources

Shoreham College Sports' Hall: providing a large venue for the workshop.

Key staff from all three schools were involved. The workshop is first, then weeks of rehearsal and then an afternoon of performance.

All of the schools contribute resources e.g. pens, papers etc.

Impact

The qualitative assessment of the event is in the pupils' reactions to the show, which was a tremendous success.

Pupil Involvement

Pupils in Years 4-6 - a coeducational project.

Frequency

It is two events, with rehearsal time in between. The event will be repeated annually in the summer and we hope will involve more primary schools.
