Impact Statement

Shoreham College has an established link with Shoreham Academy, through liaison between the head teachers of both schools. The head teachers of Shoreham College and Shoreham Academy meet on a regular basis and discuss a range of opportunities. A school direct salaried trainee has attended professional sessions alongside the PE Department at the Academy as part of her professional development and is now QTS. The two schools librarians have liaised; the two schools' IT teams have worked together. There is also collaboration with regard to the formation of policy and processes e.g. Prevent strategies and risk assessment. The two schools share ideas about other challenges too e.g. social media and parental communication. Sixth Formers from Shoreham Academy and Sir Robert Woodard Academy are welcomed to Shoreham College on work experience placements. The College History Department was joined by a sixth former from the Academy for two weeks, which was hugely successful. School direct trainees at the College, one currently in history, attend training events at Sussex University, along with state school colleagues, and there is professional collaboration in this form. The College has a long standing relationship with Ashurst Primary School, which visits the College for a food technology experience and the head of the College has visited Ashurst to give assemblies and attend sports' events. Shoreham College plays regular sporting fixtures against state schools - particularly football, basketball, swimming, rounders, netball, cricket and rugby. The College has also hosted an eco-conference with local schools looking at the environment and the impact for children. Teams from Shoreham College take part in public speaking competitions with local state schools, the Rotary's 'Youth Speaks', and pupils from the College participate in West Sussex Youth councils and cabinets, collaborating with pupils from the state sector in projects enhancing their appreciation and understanding of fundamental British Values. The College has taken part in wider community projects, such as the 'Be More Snail' campaign for mindfulness in 2018-19 and its charitable action has included local projects such as 'Off the Fence' working with the homeless of Brighton and Hove. It regularly donates significant amounts of money to Emmaus, who also supports the homeless locally.
