Specialist Teaching and Enrichment

The Leys has joined forces with Gt. Abington Primary School to help them enrich their curriculum and develop excellence in core specialist areas.

Aims

The aim of the partnership is to help prepare pupils of Great Abington Primary School for the outside world and improve their outcomes.

Background

The Headmaster of The Leys and the Governors felt the need to establish a formal partnership with one school, concentrating The Leys contributions in a more efficient and clearer manner. 

Resources

A number of Leys staff are involved in delivering some exciting initiatives including, but not limited to:

The teaching of Classics for Year 6 pupils

Bringing The Leys' Shakespeare Workshop, Having Fun with Mr Shakespeare, into the school

Enhancing the Tai Chi offer with the help of The Ley's Dance Specialists

Providing specialist teachers in hockey, rugby, tennis and cricket

Impact

So far pupils at Great Abington Primary School have gained huge enjoyment from these activities, not to mention an enormous sense of achievement. The benefits in terms of self-confidence and development opportunities have been very well received.

Frequency

This is an on-going partnership which, it is hoped, will evolve into a long-term commitment.
