Addenbrookes Befriending Scheme

Year 12 pupils have been volunteering in Outpatients, one of the three RVS cafes, on Wednesdays. They are mainly organising stock/storerooms and stacking shelves but when they are front of house their calming prescence reduce anxiety of stressed patients.

Aims

To support a busy community. The cafes provide food and drink to relatives and patients during their time at Addenbrookes.

Background

The pupils were asked to research places where they wanted to volunteer. Three Y12 pupils opted for Addenbrookes as they wish to pursue careers in the health sector.

Impact

Evidence suggests that volunteering helps pupils improve their communication skills and confidence.
