Sharing of Facilities
At Berkhamsted, we enable local community groups and school children to make use of our excellent facilities.
We have a 25 metre swimming pool at our Knox Johnson Sports Centre together with an impressive sports hall and a theatre hall. Berkhamsted School lets these facilities to local children’s clubs at either charitable rates or for free.
In addition we have Outdoor Education facilities (including a High Ropes course) which are used by four local state schools at a substantially discounted rate.
We also share several of our facilities with the academy we co-sponsor (Wren Academy) for 3 days in July (after our term has ended), when a programme of activities is run for a group of their students.
A number of the School’s football pitches are given over to use for youth football with Berkhamsted Raiders football club being a regular beneficiary alongside use of cricket pitches by Bucks and Herts youth county cricket.
Various local choirs have had regular use of either a music room or our chapel for weekly sessions.
Aims
To facilitate local community groups and school children to make use of the excellent facilities we have at Berkhamsted.
Pupil Involvement
In Summer 2022 Berkhamsted hosted 180 students from Wren Finchley with a range of activities from scavenger hunts to visits to Berkhamsted Castle. In Summer 2023 a further 700 students from Wren Finchley and Wren Enfield attended to experience activities led by our Outdoor Education team and had direct access to the boarding houses and classrooms.
60 Year 1 pupils from One Degree Academy, Enfield, enjoyed a day of Outdoor Education.
