Primary Mentoring

Students from Year 12 at Hymers College visit each week, Thoresby and Pearson Primary schools, to help the young students with their English and reading.

The project is aimed at improving the reading ability of the the primary school children. It is also aimed at growing perspective, compassion and leadership in Hymers students through volunteering and working with younger children in a professional context.

The project has been running for at least 10 years and came about from the two headteachers having a conversation.

About 40 children give up a lunchtime each week.

Pupil Involvement

It is the highlight of the week for all concerned and strong bonds have been developed between the senior students and their young charges.

It happens every year and around 40 Hymers students are involved.
