Modern Foreign Languages courses held at Colfe’s School

Colfe’s offers a number of options to local state school pupils who are keen to supplement their Modern Foreign Languages studies. This includes a weekly beginner’s German class for Year 7/8, one off workshops in Spanish and French for Year 10/11 and a breakfast club on alternate Fridays for Year 11, where Colfe’s staff and external speakers talk on a variety of topics related to languages (not connected with GCSE/AL syllabuses). For example, we recently invited a professional translator to speak about her experiences teaching English in Japan.

The aims of these courses are to:

  • Provide pupils with additional exam support
  • Introduce younger pupils to German – which may not available in their own schools
  • Stretch the most able pupils at state schools and provide them with a genuine enrichment opportunity
  • Provide pupils with a feel of what it is like to study at Colfe’s and where applicable, offer guidance on our sixth form scholarship programme

A number of pupils who have attended the booster classes have gone on to join Colfe’s in the Sixth Form and notably benefitted in their linguistic ability.
