COVID-19 Community Response
Wellington School’s COVID-19 community response
In response to school closure due to the Government’s COVID-19 measures, Wellington School remains committed to doing everything possible to support the local community.
The School remains open to care for vulnerable children and the children of key workers. 73 children are registered for this purpose and are being looked after daily.
The School’s car parks have been given over to overflow patients from the local hospital.
The School has offered its boarding houses to NHS staff who will be working long shifts or who need to self-isolate.
The School has also offered boarding houses to the NHS for certain categories of patients (e.g. those in long-term care, but who don’t have critical medical issues). Boarding house beds can be used if beds at local hospitals need to be made available to cope with COVID-19 related pressures.
The School has helped resource Musgrove Park Hospital with essential PPE. Including goggles and hundreds of surgical gloves that have been donated to the procurement department at Musgrove Park Hospital.
Pupils and staff have been using the School’s 3-D printer to make clear visors for medical staff. Visors have been delivered to St Margaret’s Hospice and a number of local GP practices.
In response to a plea from a nurse at ICU at Musgrove Park Hospital for small hearts - which are given as comfort for families with loved ones at hospital and which forms a link between patient and family when they can’t visit - the School has made and distributed 100.
A Sixth Form studnet is working 10 hour shifts at Musgrove Park Hospital to help set up the new COVID-19 wards.
