Impact Statement
Academic Partnerships:
We run an annual Maths Challenge, which involves 45 local Primary Schools and 200 children taking part in a morning of maths problem solving.
An annual Faraday Challenge takes place every year here at the school, involving 4 local schools - 40+ children and this is a STEM challenge day.
Our evaluation shows an increased sense of community among pupils at both our school and the local primary schools. Both of these events are run without charge and we supply our own teaching staff to cover both events.
We run a Horizons Lecture series , inviting notable speakers to address our own students and invited students form the local secondary schools. In addition, we run an annual Maths lecture, again for invited secondary schools.
We run an annual Writers Retreat for children form local primary schools, providing opportunities to write creatively, work with published children's authors and present their work in an showcase. Over 10 schools - 50 children take part
We have a Physics memorandum of understanding with the local secondary schools to promote excellence in teaching, sharing resources and methodologies and best practice. 4 secondary schools involved
Drama Partnerships:
65 Pupils from a local primary school were invited to attend a school musical production here – free of charge. This provides improved access to musical theatre in the local community.
We run outreach drama sessions for 3 local school, as well as a newly opened Stage School and Dance School.
40 children from the local community take part in drama outreach and 30 attend Dance School. Over 70 children attend Stage School.
Music Partnerships:
Annually there is a musical event called ‘Come and Sing’, where 2 of our music teachers spend 10 weeks visiting up to 24 local primary schools and working with the children to prepare for a combined concert at the end of the term. This could involve up to 500 children and all parents are invited to support the event. We provide 2 minibuses to collect some of the children and provide a concert venue free of charge.
Sports Partnerships:
In addition to hosting a variety of tournaments (rugby /netball/cricket /hockey) for the local schools, we also offer an excellent outreach provision to local clubs. This includes cricket coaching, "Superstar" programme of multi-sports for local schools, clubs and individuals and a pentathlon/laser shooting/athletics club for local children.
International Relations
We have partnerships with schools in Nigeria, Australia and Africa and support national initiatives (Shoes to the Philippines / Computers to Africa / Uniform to Africa) as well as fundraising for national disasters (Nepal Earthquake/Ukraine/Turkey, Syria Earthquake appeal - raising significant amounts of money, resources and essential items.
Some of our Chinese sixth formers worked with the local Wellington Scouts group on Chinese New Year, culture and language.
