Scholarships

Pocklington School offers several scholarships for excellence in academic, music and sporting ability. Scholarships are designed to reward excellence and to celebrate exceptional talent.

Tenure

Pocklington School awards are tenable for the duration of the pupil's time at Pocklington and are subject to continued satisfactory performance and behaviour. Whilst awards do not come with a financial incentive, a programme of development and challenge is provided to award recipients of all types. Bursary fee assistance can also be applied for (see Bursaries below).

Academic scholarships

Academic scholarships and exhibitions are available for pupils entering into Pocklington School at Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. At Year 7, they are awarded to the best performing candidates in the entrance assessment. At Year 9, there is a scholarship assessment which is also open, by invitation or request, to internal candidates, and awards will be made to the best performing pupils in this assessment. Sixth Form academic scholarships are awarded to the highest performing students at GCSE (internal and external). In previous years, awards have been offered to those achieving in the region of eight GCSE passes at grade 8/9 and above.

Music scholarships

The Music Scholarship Programme aims to recognise and develop musical excellence, develop performance and compositional skills and develop the necessary attributes to prosper as a musician in a demanding competitive field as a professional or amateur. Candidates will be assessed by performance and interview in auditions held in the Lent term. 

Sports Scholars Programme

The Sports Scholars Programme aims to nurture and support the sports people of the future. Pocklington School collaborates with local, regional and national sports organisations to ensure that our sports scholars obtain comprehensive and ongoing support, aimed at guiding them on their pathway to elite sport.

The Sports Scholars programme is open to candidates entering Pocklington School in Year 12, with the expectation that they will make a significant contribution to the sporting life of the School. Candidates usually already represent their school in at least one mainstream sport, have external recognition of their talent, such as playing for their county, involvement in a talent development pathway or be identified as a 'stand out' player by their respective Head of Sport. Following application, shortlisted potential scholars will be invited to attend an assessment/taster day at Pocklington School. 

Bursaries

A number of bursaries are available for prospective and current pupils at Pocklington School, worth up to 100% of the day fee. Bursary applications must be made by early-February, and bursaries will be awarded on merit as a result of interview, references and further voluntary evidence, and after assessment of the financial means of those responsible for payment of fees. The candidate must either pass the Pocklington School entrance assessment or meet the grade requirements for entry into Sixth Form.
