The Minimus Project

The Minimus Project was established to bridge the gap in Latin education for primary school students and to provide Sixth Form students with a unique teaching opportunity.

Aims

The Minimus Project aims to provide primary school students, who might not otherwise have the opportunity, with an introduction to Latin. Additionally, it allows Sixth Form Latin students to teach the subject, encouraging them to make it enthusiastic and accessible. This initiative offers mutual benefits by involving sixth formers in local schools and testing their own Latin skills through writing and performing a play in Latin.

Background

The Minimus Project was established to bridge the gap in Latin education for primary school students and to provide Sixth Form students with a unique teaching opportunity. By collaborating with Ashfield Primary School, the project leverages the strengths of both institutions to create a rich, mutually beneficial learning experience. The use of staff and student time, combined with a structured approach to teaching and performance, ensures the project's success and sustainability. Through this initiative, St. Margaret's aims to foster a deeper appreciation for Latin and classical studies while enhancing the educational experience for all involved.

Skill Development: Sixth Form students develop teaching skills, deepen their understanding of Latin, and gain experience in creating educational content.
Increased Enthusiasm: The project fosters a love for learning Latin among young students and encourages enthusiasm and engagement from both primary and sixth form students.
Mutual Benefits: The collaboration benefits both primary and sixth form students, creating a reciprocal learning environment that enriches the educational experience for all participants.
Community Engagement: Strengthened ties between St. Margaret's and local schools, fostering a sense of community and shared educational goals.
