Supporting Cambodia
Truro High School has a long-term commitment to support Brasat Primary School in Cambodia.
Students raise money each year to fund the education of children at Brasat Primary and, every few years, have the chance to visit the school to work with the students and see the difference their money is making.
Aims
The project aims to increase the number of children able to complete their primary education in Cambodia by funding the places and materials they need to attend school.
The school works with the charity Edukid which says attendance at the school has more than doubled thanks to our support.
Background
The partnership has been established around 5 years with the school raising thousands of pounds every year to support Brasat Primary.
Resources
Each year the school stages a major fundraising day in aid of Brasat Primary School, Cambodia ranging from a colour run to a day of sporting challenges. Funds are then provided to Brasat Primary via the charity Edukid.
Students have just returned from their third visit to the school where they had the opportunity to put together packs of books and uniform and then teach some of the new young students.
Impact
Our commitment is to provide funds on an annual basis with students visiting as often as possible.
Pupil Involvement
Students of all ages assist with fundraising while the opportunity to work in Cambodia is offered to girls from Year 11 upwards.
Frequency
This is ongoing.
