Sensational Science Workshop

Pupils from Hook Norton Primary, Deddington Primary and Bloxham Primary visited the Science department for a morning of workshops.

Experiments were conducted in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, with groups rotating between the subjects across the morning. A wide range of investigations took place, including using microscopes to look at onion cells and how to change the colour of a Bunsen burner’s flame.

Aims

With resources for Science often limited at a primary level, the Science workshop was established to foster a love for the subject at a young age.

The workshop offered the chance to work in a laboratory and to experiment across the three disciplines of chemistry, physics and biology.

Resources

Three members of teaching staff conducted workshops in Bloxham’s science laboratories.

Impact

Teacher feedback on the day included the following comments:

“The children were enthusiastic! They all embraced the tasks and learnt lots.”

“All children were able to access regardless of their ability. More opportunities like this please, thank you!”

“Their interest in Science has been given a huge boost due to the opportunities they were given”

Pupil Involvement

A small group of five to seven children from Year 5 from each school attended.

Frequency

We hold an annual Science morning, with different local schools involved each year to ensure opportunities are offered to a range of pupils.
