Creative Writing Workshop
Children from local schools were invited to take part in a creative writing workshop with local author John Dougherty. John led a morning’s workshop where children learnt new skills to put into practice with their own creative writing.
Aims
The aim of the creative writing workshop was to provide an opportunity for local children to experience the process of writing from the perspective of a published author. The author demonstrated a range of techniques, inspiring the children for their own creative writing during the session and beyond.
Resources
Bloxham paid the visiting author’s fee. A member of non-teaching staff hosted the event alongside the author, which was held in a Bloxham School classroom.
Impact
Feedback from parents following the morning included:
“Thank you very much for the workshop this morning. Lily came home with a page of fabulous creative writing and thoroughly enjoyed her time at the school…all credit to John Dougherty for engaging the children so brilliantly”
“Charlie had a wonderful time: thank you very much indeed. He has come home buzzing… and an added bonus of the book signing!”
Pupil Involvement
35 children aged between 9 and 10 attended the event.
Frequency
Our creative writing event has been held annually for five years, with a few different authors.
