Impact Statement

Our dedicated Outreach Officer coordinates our outreach programme with local schools. We give a wide range of sporting and broader curriculum support to many local state schools.
We continue to build links with primary schools in our area, particularly with those from the Warriner Partnership. Where possible, we make our facilities and teaching expertise available for these schools, and over the past year have held drama, art, history and science workshops, in which local primary children have participated. In addition, around 70 Bloxham Primary pupils attended weekly afterschool clubs in Maths, Reading, Art, Cookery and D&T. As part of the afterschool club programme, six pupils joined the local state primary school on a weekly basis to support their teachers and pupils.

Bloxham School hosted the North Oxfordshire Schools Sports Partnerships Hockey Festival, which included 9 local primaries, with around 200 children in attendance. We also delivered free weekly coaching to over 700 local primary school children. In addition, our sports graduates gave many hours of time teaching and promoting hockey in local junior schools as part of a hockey masterclass. We also facilitated the "Warriner Primary School Family" U11 Sainsbury Games Festival.

Local state schools brought groups of their pupils to our climbing wall, giving them access to facilities which enabled them to work towards specific climbing awards.

We provided weekly tennis coaching to the local primary school. Around 60 pupils were able to benefit from use of our tennis facilities

Twenty Seven KS2 children from 8 local primary schools attended our Reading and Creative Writing workshop. Pupils were inspired to continue to progress and explore their reading and writing skills, with feedback as follows: "The workshop was very successful for Oliver who is now keener to write imaginative stories." "Charlie thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and started reading 'lemons' that night. He was so inspired he finished the story he started with you." "Lucas has been positively inspired by the creative writing workshop, he hasn't stopped talking about it!"

During term time, we had approximately 270 pupils from state primary schools using our swimming pool on a regular weekly basis. We also provided swimming instruction at a marginal cost to 8 local schools.

Our annual careers fair with over 40 exhibitors from the worlds of business and higher and further education, was open to non-Bloxham students. We welcomed a good number of local children to the evening.

Bursary support with school fees

At Bloxham School we recognise the significant sacrifices that many parents make to enable their children to benefit from a private school education. In this vein, we are pleased to be able to offer financial assistance to some of those families in the form of means-tested bursaries and currently support around 23% of our parents. 

Bursaries can be obtained either in conjunction with a scholarship or without one and bring with them a reduction in school fees. Those who wish to apply for financial assistance should first complete our registration process. You will then be asked to complete a confidential statement of financial affairs, upon which a bursary offer will be made.

The Raymond Trust, built on a legacy from Roger Raymond, an Old Bloxhamist, funds a limited number of full-fee bursaries with recommendations for Raymond Scholarships given by the Headmaster, Paul Sanderson. We also have a relationship with the SpringBoard Bursary Foundation that will allow children to come with the charity paying for a proportion of the fees and the rest being covered by the school. 

Forces Bursaries are available to those parents registered to be paying the fees and who are not in receipt of a Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) or a similar employment related award.

 

Scholarships

The scholarships offered at Bloxham School are academic, art, design and technology (DT), drama, music, organ and sport, and are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+ entry levels. Successful applicants can benefit from a fee remission of up to 20% of the day or boarding fee.

Bloxham School awards scholarships on the basis of a student's potential to achieve, rather than relying solely on what they have been taught previously. 

Scholarships at 11+

Academic scholarships at 11+ are awarded based on applicants’ performances in the entrance exams, which take place in the November before they are looking to start. If applying for an art, DT, drama or music scholarship, prospective students will sit particular assessments and meet with the relevant Head of Department. Sport scholarships are not offered at 11+.

Scholarships at 13+

Those applying for an academic scholarship at 13+ will be invited to sit a series of papers to demonstrate their ability across the curriculum. Scholarships are also available to students in art, drama, DT, music and sport. As with the 11+ entry, these awards will be based on interviews and particular assessments.

Scholarships at 16+

At 16+, students wishing to be considered for an academic scholarship will sit a General Paper plus papers in two other subjects, preferably those that the candidate wishes to study at A Level. At this level, scholarships are also available in art, DT, drama, music, the organ and sport.

Parents whose children have successfully gained a scholarship in any discipline are still able to apply for bursarial support if they are eligible.
