Making Music
An amazing day of ‘Making Music’ enjoyed by 50 local young musicians, having a fabulous musical experience, led by our experts in the Warwick School's music department.
Saturday saw the successful return of our ‘Making Music Day’ at Warwick School. This is an instrumental workshop day for young musicians, aged 8-11, from schools in and around the Warwickshire area. It provides an opportunity for them to share in the joy of making music together in various groups and ensembles, culminating in a performance for parents, showcasing the fruits of their labour from the day.
This year we had over 50 young musicians take part including, for the first time, a fabulous guitar ensemble, as well as a full orchestra, string orchestra and wind band. An added bonus to the whole day was that Mr Sampson, Head of Strings at Warwick School, brought along his WOOFYT (Wooden Octave Organ For Young Technicians), demonstrating the science of sound and music combined to all our young musicians, who also got to have a go at making it work!
The concert demonstrated the vast leap forward that all of the children had made throughout the day. Performances included: ‘James Bond’ and ‘The Gates of Kiev’ by the Orchestra; ‘Music from Around the World’ by the Wind Band; ‘Chinese Street Festival’ by the String Orchestra; ‘Promenade’ by the Guitar Group. A truly impressive number of pieces to learn in one day, with the quality to match!
A huge thank you to all of the staff who gave of their time to help out and to our wonderful young musicians who made the day an absolute delight!
