Local Cluster Schools' Activity Co-Ordinator

Ludgrove School funds a local cluster co-ordinator to run a myriad of small targeted and large scale events at local primary and secondary schools.

The events proposed for the cluster this academic year are as follows:

- Following a tremendously successful visit last year ‘The Beatbox Collective’ returned to the cluster to see years 6, 8 and 9 and they did a fantastic session with each of the years as a follow on to the work they did with them last year.

- An inspirational speaker who was featured on the television show ‘Educating Yorkshire’, is visiting in July to come and do three sessions for one primary and two secondary year groups about never giving up and overcoming adversity.

- A presentation for parents about coping with anxiety in children

- A year 6 athletics event supported by professional athletes

- A secondary school football event supported by professional footballers

- Sessions for vulnerable primary age children at Oakwood Climbing Centre and Just Around the Corner, an organisation that uses work with horses to help with self-esteem and confidence issues

Aims

As a result of the Bursar's knowledge of the local cluster school set up, she was clearly able to see that Ludgrove's ability to fund the role would enable the project to continue and, more importantly, grow and develop.

The economies of scale, both financially and with time efficiency (eg authors visiting multiple schools), have very obvious and tangible benefits.

The immediate beneficiaries are the many primary and secondary school pupils in the borough. There is also a benefit to teaching staff and families that pupils are receiving a more diverse and enriched educational experience.

Background

Funding of the co-ordinator was identified by Ludgrove's Bursar through her knowledge of the local cluster school set up. When the school was looking to increase its public benefit work, this project was highlighted as an effective way to bring maximum benefit to the largest number of schoolchildren through one source.

Ludgrove's commitment to fund the co-ordinator has been running for three years and its resounding success means that there are no plans to withdraw support.

Resources

Ludgrove School funds the role of local cluster co-ordinator to run a myriad of small targeted and large scale events at local primary and secondary schools.

The school funds the work of the co-ordinator but this does not entail commitment of resources other than where the role has identified use of the school's facilities such as the swimming pool and mini buses.

Impact

The Bursar meets with the co-ordinator 1-2 times a term to discuss the project's on-going activities and plan for the future. In this way and with clear communications, the partnership can evolve as required.

Pupil Involvement

The Co-Ordinator is responsible for many events at both primary and secondary schools throughout Wokingham Borough. The provision includes all genders and encompasses both primary and secondary aged young people.

Frequency

The Co-Ordinator is responsible for many events at both primary and secondary schools throughout Wokingham Borough. These may be one-off events or regular classes.

Ludgrove has funded this position since 2017 and has plans to continue its funding into the foreseeable future.
