Harborne Little League

Edgbaston High School for Girls supports girls from state Primary Schools and neighbouring Preparatory schools by providing all the facilties for Year 4-6 pupils to play in a netball league on a Saturday afternoon in a structured league format. Girls sign up to trial for this league, they are all offered coaching, training sessions and placed into a team. The team is managed by adult volunteers who help with the daily running on the team and administration.

Aims

Little League Netball provides the opportunity for girls aged eight to eleven (school years 4, 5 and 6) to play organised and supervised league matches, coaching is also included.

Each league includes up to 10 teams, and the matches are played at the same venue each week – usually on Saturday mornings. The league season runs from March to July of each year.

No previous playing experience is necessary, as each team is made up of a careful balance of experienced and new players.  Games last for around 30 minutes and substitutions take place throughout matches to ensure everyone gets a fair turn.

As well as encouraging more girls to play netball and develop their skills, we hope to foster a strong sense of team spirit, fun and friendship.  We actively try to engage the wider community to support the leagues, particularly parents of girls in the league.  The league organisers, team managers and umpires are all volunteers and training in coaching, First Aid and Safeguarding Children in Sport are available to anyone who would like to get involved.
