Educational software development project with local schools

The project was created to give A Level Computing students the opportunity to apply their learning to a real life, practical setting, to support primary school curriculum objectives and to build closer links with our partner schools.

Aims

The project was created to give A Level Computing students the opportunity to apply their learning to a real life, practical setting, to support primary school curriculum objectives and to build closer links with our partner schools.

Background

A-Level Computing requires students to complete a substantial programming project. After discussion with some of our partner schools, teachers were keen to support the project. Feedback from staff was extremely positive as they are always looking for new and innovative teaching resources.

Resources

LWC's Head of Computer Science met the head teacher and staff to discuss the project and its objectives. The 6th Form students, who were making the software, then went to visit staff to discuss specific requirements. LWC A Level students visited the partner school several times to test and modify their software in discussion with staff and pupils. Once the teachers were happy, the project was signed off. LWC provided this software at at no cost to the partner schools.
