Sporting partnership project with Long Sutton Church of England Primary School

Our teachers and sixth form pupils coach sport to pupils in Years 3-6 from Long Sutton Primary School. These sessions last an hour and are weekly.  We offer rugby in the autumn term, hockey in the spring term and athletics in the summer term.  We also open up our swimming pool for their use.

Aims

The aim of the project is to share the College's sporting expertise with children from the local area and introduce the pupils at Long Sutton Church of England Primary School to sports they might otherwise not have the chance to try. 

Background

The partnership between Lord Wandsworth College and Long Sutton Church of England Primary School was established 5+ years ago. 

Resources

We use college staff who have expertise in each sport as well as 6th Form pupils who enjoy the leadership opportunity.  For rugby and hockey the pupils come to the college and for athletics, our staff use the primary school's fields. We provide rugby balls, hockey sticks, hurdles, bibs and other training equipment.  These coaching sessions are free to pupils.
