Collaborative Performance Arts Workshops with Ridgeway School

A group of Year 13 students visit Ridgeway School every other week throughout the academic year to deliver dance, drama and music workshops to a group of students between the ages of 10 and 18. At the end of each term the students from Ridgeway School perform a piece to their parents, teachers and carers.

Ridgeway School holds a unique position within Bedford Borough. It is the only all-age school, (ages between 3 and 19 years) providing education for pupils with physical disabilities and/or medical conditions and associated learning and communication difficulties.

Aims

To provide the opportunity for 20 Ridgeway School students:

1) To partake in a variety of performance arts activities

2) To give post-16 students the opportunity to use these workshops for their Arts Award qualifications.

For BMS students who devise, write and deliver the workshops, it provides an opportunity to:

1) Understand and adapt to the challenges of working with young people with specific needs

2) Develop leadership skills.

Resources

Staff time/cost of staff time, expertise and release from school and/or use of staff’s own time required to participate in the range of activities listed.

Frequency

This is an ongoing programme. Visits to Ridgeway School take place every other week.
