Charitable activities in the community
The girls support a variety of different charities throughout the school year. Girls fundraise by bake sales, sponsored walks, sale stalls, non-uniform days and bringing in donations.
Girls in the junior school regularly visit retirement home/care homes to sing to the residents. Girls in the senior school provide a range of days for the local community to take part in e.g. Senior Citizens Tea Party and Carers Day.
In order to benefit the local community we hire out school facilities to the following groups:
VB Dance School
Burgess Hill Runners
Walking Football
Yoga/Pilates
Basketball
Volleyball
Zumba
Taekwon-do
Various music & drama groups.
Aims
Support local food bank, animal shelter, local hospices and national charities.
To provide entertainment and company for senior citizens and to provide care for those who are usually carers.
Resources
We use school facilities and teaching and non teaching staff to help support the fundraising. Resources also include minibuses.
Impact
Certificates are sent from charities to show appreciation of what has been raised/donated. Pupils given the opportunity to lead on these events and develop their confidence and leadership skills. We have received letters from the community thanking us for the events we have held. Pupils gain confidence through interacting with older people and the wider community.
Pupil Involvement
From year 7 to upper sixth. Some pupils attend these groups e.g. dance, music.
Frequency
Support of Chailey Heritage Foundation school is an ongoing partnership. On average 2 events are held each term. Most of the activity groups (such as yoga)) meet once weekly on the school site.
