Impact Statement

PE Teaching

Impact of work with Tudor Hall School – statements from Queensway Primary School:

I have been working with James from Tudor Hall School since September 2016. This has been a great partnership between our two schools. As a teacher, I have found that working with James has encouraged me to use different teaching methods in my PE lessons. Ideas I have used include “short games” to develop the children’s confidence and skills, a wider range of warm-up ideas and diverse ways to include more competitive elements into my lesson. Having James collaborating with me last year also enabled me to support a child in my class with multiple needs more effectively. We were also able to work with two-year groups simultaneously, teaching athletics, something that we had been hoping to do as part of our own School PE action plan.
The pupils in my class thoroughly enjoyed working with James; it was particularly great for the children to work with a male member of staff as we currently have no male teachers or teaching assistants. Two boys, both not previously keen to join sports clubs, joined the Banbury Hockey Club directly because of hockey lessons. I also saw an improvement in their engagement and confidence in class discussion.

Hockey Festival:

The following schools attended a Hockey outreach Festival: Queensway, Christopher Rawlins and Bishops Loveday. The festival focused on developing skills and competitive game play. We used a variety of our sports leaders to help deliver the festival.

Impact statement from Queensway Primary School:

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were keen to tell the other children about what they did. We were fortunate to be able to compete with other schools, again, something that is within our school PE action plan. There were children taking part who are in receipt of pupil premium.

Sixth Form volunteers visiting Queensway every Thursday afternoon working as teaching assistants and helping with the afterschool club.

Impact statement from Queensway Primary School:

The sixth form volunteers have been involved in diverse ways within the classes completing displays, preparing resources, supporting individual children in art and science, 1:1 reading and assisting staff making resources for class assemblies. They also helped in an after-school dance club. Their presence in the school meant that class teachers have been able to provide support for a greater number of children in lessons such as science, art and PHSE. Having students who are willing to conduct reading activities is invaluable. Some of our children do not read regularly at home with an adult and it has been great to be able to target more children in this way. Also, it has been good for our children to talk and interact with people who may be from a different culture or background to them.

Sixth Form: A small group of pupils have been going into William Morris School and helping in lessons and at after school PE clubs.

Impact Statement from William Morris:

The strong links that we have made with Tudor Hall have been hugely supportive on our journey of improvement. Having a group of confident young adults come to the school on a regular basis has allowed us to pursue opportunities which otherwise we would not have been able to do. Through supporting PE lessons and reading, the girls have developed strong relationships with the children at William Morris, providing them with positive role models. The girls are nurturing and kind, engaging the children in interesting and exciting games. They are flexible and adaptable to the individual needs of our school, something we really value and appreciate. The impact of having the Tudor Hall girls visit regularly has been huge and felt in all year groups. It is fair to say that in a short space of time, Tudor Hall and the young leaders they kindly provide William Morris with, have already had a hugely positive impact on the lives of these young students. On behalf of William Morris, thank you for your continued support.
