Impact Statement
A number of local schools make use of the College’s facilities at no charge to them, including the chapel, sports facilities and theatre.
Several day-long courses and workshops are held throughout the course of the academic year aimed at benefiting local primary schoolchildren and extending their curriculum. These include: two leadership and teamwork challenge days each September, a DT challenge day, a primary schools’ Maths Challenge Day, a Poetry Performance Day, a Brass Day and an Orchestra Day. In addition an annual Piano Festival brings in children aged 8 - 17 from local schools to perform and be mentored by professional pianists.
Sports partnerships exist with local schools and clubs. Three local clubs use the astroturf each week for football training, and a local hockey club made up of primary aged children from the local community play free of charge every Saturday. In the last academic year, we hosted a netball tournament for children from local primary schools, and this year plan to augment this with an orienteering day and a summer sports gala day (athletics and swimming). Last year a member of our PE department spent one day per fortnight doing 1 to 1 outreach with teachers in local primary schools, and our music department also offer bespoke outreach sessions to local primary schools.
We host CCF for two local senior schools (one state and one other independent school). In addition, teachers from local schools have been invited to participate in some of our CPD training days, and this practice is set to continue. At least seven members of our staff volunteer as governors at local primary and secondary schools.
