Sunshine in my Pocket

This was a day organised and hosted by Westfield School to help pupils to learn how to keep our bodies and minds fit and healthy. Other schools came to visit and joined in with all of the fun and exciting activities that we took part in. The event took place on Thursday 28th February 2019. There were 15 pupils from Archbishop Runcie First School, 4 pupils from Branton Primary School, 29 pupils from from Milecastle Primary School and 10 Westfield girls were involved in the event.

Aims

To learn how to keep our bodies and minds fit and healthy. Wellbeing was identified as a key, ongoing issue in younger age groups. Pupils from local state schools as well as our own pupils were the immediate beneficiaries.

 

Background

Local schools were invited to attend the original Sunshine in my Pocket Day in 2017. The initiative was so successful that another day was organised in 2018.

Resources

All resources including guesat speakers and activities were provided by Westfield School. School facilties were used. Teaching staff and invited guests were used to deliver the activities. Schools did not make a financial contribution.

Impact

Feedback and very positive comments from the schools that attended provided clear evidence that their pupils gained a great deal from the day. 

Pupil Involvement

44 Pupils from state schools and ten of our own pupils. mixture of boys and girls aged 6-7 years.

Frequency

This is an ongonig activity (annual). It will continue for the foreseeable future.
