GCSE Further Mathemathics
Two local state schools participate in extra GCSE in Further Mathematics through the Reece outreach project which aims to support girls with high achievement and raising confidence in Mathematics.
Through the Reece outreach project we aim to support girls with high achievement and raising confidence in Mathematics.
We applied through the Reece Outreach programme to offer extra GCSE in Further Mathematics to two local state schools last year. The opportunity was identified through our Head of STEM.
Pupils from the two partner schools attend classes after school using our school facilities. Our teaching staff deliver the sessions and any materials are provided by our school.
Outcome can be measured in terms of success at GCSE level and comparative assessment against other GCSE subjects.
There are currently 3 girls from North East Futures UTC (we also had two from UTC last year who completed the course in the summer) and 5 girls from Kenton School, Newcastle upon Tyne (a large, local state school less than a two miles from the school)
They basically come for an hours session (lesson) after school once a week plus there are some extra revision sessions in the run up to exams. A video online teaching link was provided for all lessons through lockdown. The initiative is likely to continue.
