'Chicago' - MFL, English and Performing Arts
The aim of the day was to give the students a taster of MFL, English and Performing Arts through the theme of our school production ‘Chicago’. Owing to this, the local boys school were also involved for part of the day.
Aims
The aim of the day was to give the students a 'taster' of Modern Foreign Langauges (specifically Spanish, German and French), English and the Performing Arts (music and drama)through the theme of our school production ‘Chicago’.
A need was identified to raise the value and importance of the arts and languages in schools. The success of the day was evident in the extremely positive feedback from the participating school.
Background
Invitations were sent out to local middle schools after the faculty of Languages & Performing Arts identified a gap in the development and teaching of MFL and Performing Arts in local middle schools.
This was the first venture.
Resources
Staff were the critical resource! Everything else was either bought in as part of the show so already on hand or devised completely by staff.
School facilities were used but no contribution was demanded of the participating school. Lunch and refeshments were also provided free of charge.
Impact
The impact could be measured by the incredibly positive feedback from the participating school. The school has also committed to attending the school production of Chicago in March.
Pupil Involvement
There were 16 participants (10 boys/ 6 girls) from the state middle school. Students were handpicked by staff at the participating school. The pupils were 10 years of age.
Frequency
The activity will be a regular event (once a year) for the foreseeable future.
