Sports Provision Impact

King’s House School Sports Ground is a 35 acre site in Chiswick, and a number of local state schools use the site at a reduced rate or for no fee. This includes providing facilities for sports days, PE lessons (including GCSE), after school clubs, fixtures and games lessons. This benefits over 2,000 local pupils, including from Chiswick School, Hammersmith Academy and Cavendish School. KHS also funds Excel Sports coaches, and offers free pitch hire, to deliver their sessions to over 150 local children. Grenfell FC, founded in the wake of the tragedy, are also offered free pitch hire for their fixtures at the grounds.

Aims

To provide local students with access to first class sporting facilities.

Background

King’s House School has run the Sports Ground since 2012, which was previously the Civil Service Sports Ground. The 35-acre site is able to provide first class sports facilities in West London where many schools have limited access to outdoor space, and so both local state and independent schools can access these.

Free or discounted school sports days are also offered to local state primary and secondary schools.

NFL National Summer Bowl for Schools was previously hosted at King's House Sports Ground. The school was approached by the London Borough of Hounslow to host the event.

Resources

The running of the Sports Ground is enabled by operational staff and the grounds team, and is dependent on maintaining the sports facilities.

Impact

The impact of this initiative can be seen through the wide range of school sports and activities taking place at the grounds.

King's House School work in partnership with Chiswick School, a local state 11-18 secondary school. Students from Chiswick School are able to access the facilities at King's House Sports Ground for free throughout the school year for lessons, after school clubs, fixtures and Sports Days. A particular success this year is the introduction of Girls Football at the school. Students train and play on the 3G pitch at KHSG on Wednesday evenings. Planned future activities include Key Stage 2 to 3 transition sessions for new starters and leavers events.

Weekly term time football sessions are held for boys and girls from Cavendish School on King's House Sports Ground 3G hosted by Excel Sports.

Hammersmith Academy deliver PE lessons for students aged 11-18 years at KHSG. The partnership enables Hammersmith Academy to access high quality discounted sports facilities all year round. King's House School provide sports day and transition days at the site for free. Level 3 BTEC and GCSE students from Hammersmith Academy support public benefit activities and tournaments hosted at King's House Sports Ground for local schools by undertaking the role of sports coordinators, officials and organisers.

Pupil Involvement

Over 2,000 pupils in the local area benefit from using the facilities every week, generally secondary school age.

Frequency

Weekly PE lessons, fixtures and training sessions in term time as well as holiday club provision. Ongoing partnerships since 2012.
