Lawrence Dallagio Works
Academic and Sport
Rugby Works Events: 5 hours
Boys: 100
Disadvantaged students from the local community selected for a rugby event held at the King's House Sports Ground.
"KHS has recently partnered with the Lawrence Dallaglio Rugby Works Foundation to host rugby events at the sports grounds. Dallaglio RugbyWorks is an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which we aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training. KHS are providing the sports grounds free of charge to support the running of the programme. Each year on average 2,200 young people between the ages of 14-16 are excluded from mainstream education in the UK. That’s 12 exclusions every school day. Excluded children are the most vulnerable; twice as likely to be in the care of the state, four times more likely to have grown up in poverty, seven times more likely to have a special educational need and ten times more likely to suffer recognised mental health problems. Most have no hope of getting out of a system they fell in often through no fault of their own. They will go on to cost the state £763m in extra health, criminal justice, welfare and education costs in their lifetime. 63% of the prison population were excluded from school at some stage in their lives.
At Dallaglio Rugby Works, we want to change this. We get to work right at the heart of the system. We place our coaches in local Alternative Provision, where we work hand in hand with local teaching staff, using the values of rugby to help develop a wide range of essential skills for these permanently excluded teenagers. We provide structure and support, and a pathway to the future.
These are some of the hardest young people to reach, but our programme is working. Over a period of 3 years we work with each young person to get them in to employment or further education and the results have been encouraging.
Currently we operate across the UK in just over 40 schools and have over 350 young people working with us. Our future plans see us working with 560 young people in 70 Alternative Provision sites by September 2018, that’s close to 25% of all permanently excluded 14-16 year old’s across the country.
Our results are significant, a young person on our programme is 3 times more likely to pass a Maths & English Level 2 and twice as likely to still be in education, employment or training 12 months after leaving school. Both significant predictors of future employability and ability to support themselves and their families to build a better life."
Brentford in the Community
Academic and Sport
Facility Hire: 200+ hours
Boys: 100+
King's House School offers Brentford in the Community discounted football pitch hire.
"Brentford in the Community have used King's House Sports Ground as their home for training sessions and games throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. The partnership with KHS has provided players from BITC with the opportunity to train and play on professional standard surfaces. The quality of the facilities at the ground have assisted Brentford with the development of the programme and from 2019-2020 the programme will increase to 3 teams at the ground. The programme would not have grown at the successful rate that it has without the support of KHS and the offer of reduced facility hire costs. The 2019 - 2020 academic year will also see the launch of a BTEC programme for sixth form students. Brentford in the Community Sports Trust is an independent charitable arm of Brentford Football Club and a member of the English Football League Trust. As part of their ethos and remit, the trust looks to build local partnerships with a variety of organisations to fulfil its core pillars of health, education, participation, community engagement and employment/training."
