Latin teaching

Pupils at The Gryphon School, the local comprehensive school in Sherborne, have been taught GCSE Latin over recent years and the intake is particularly strong this year (18) after successful results this summer.

Aims

To allow local schoolchildren to access a subject not otherwise open to them.

Background

This has been going on for a number of years as a local teacher connected to the community began the tutoring arrangement.

Resources

Lessons take place at Sherborne School and a member of the classics department delivers teaching for two-hour blocks on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.  There is no cost to those involved as everything is covered by Sherborne.  Currently, there are 18 pupils involved but the number fluctuates annually.
